Tips for Good Skin

Even before applying any make up, you must always apply a moisturiser with an SPF of at least 15. No matter how dull it is outside, the rays can still get through to damage your skin. Most foundations now days have SPF built in, but I recommend using both for extra protection.

Use a night cream before bed. These are usually thick and creamy to give you an intense moisture boost so your skin feels nice and soft in the morning. Also apply eye creams at night too.

Always remove make up before bed by using a solution or make up remover wipes. As much as I would love to wear make up 24/7 it is not recommended if you want clear, fresh skin.

Apply a light cleanser before moisturising in the morning and night. Cleanser allows the skin to absorb moisture and removes any dirt left on the skin after washing.

Your diet can also effect your skin. Try to eat less fried foods and make sure you get plenty of fruit and brightly coloured vegetables. Fish such as salmon is a good source of Omega-3. And try swapping some fizzy drinks and cappuccinos for water. You should see an improvement, even in the colour of your skin. You will look brighter.

Feel good quote from the fabulous Laura Mercier

"I know today that appreciating your own beauty does not come solely from therapy, make up application, or plastic surgery- although these things can help. Rather, it comes from a little door that opens in our minds and helps us celebrate our differences and find pride in our uniqueness."

Get the look: Nicole Richie's fresh look as created by Paul Starr

Two years ago Nicole Richie was the cover girl for Harper's Bazaar magazine.

Nicole's make-up for the cover shoot was done by the late Paul Starr it was a simple yet stunning look and here is how you can get the look!

SKIN:
Paul prepared Nicole's (already flawless) skin with a light mist from Jurlique called
Jurlique Lavender Hydrating Mist (formally known as Lavender Floral Water).
Paul tells us that
La Mer: The Mist will always be a staple in his cosmetic kit, but the Hydrating Mist from Jurlique is his new summer fave. Its "a replenishing mist, rich in the living energy of lavender and marshmallow to hydrate, tone and soothe. Leaves the skin refreshed. Ideal for rebalancing dryness." Paul also recommends, Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist which also provides helps to provide hydration to the skin and comes in a number of fragrances including: Hamemelis, Chamomile, Bergamot, Mint, Sage, Rose, Lavender, Rosemary, and Fragrance Free.
Next, Paul applied
Chanel Teint Innocence Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup SPF 12 in Soft Honey to Nicole's skin with his makeup sponge.
Paul loves this Chanel foundation because it is so light it is almost like a tinted moisturizer - it keeps the skin soft and natural with perfect flawless coverage.

EYES:
Paul lined Nicole's upper eyelid with a deep-chocolate shadow and along her lower lash line he used a rich plum color with a gold shimmer underneath - all shadows from
Chanel's Irreelle Duo Silky Eyeshadow Duo compacts.
Paul added black mascara to Nicole's upper eyelashes and a plum-colored mascara on her bottom lashes.

BROWS:
Paul used his absolute favorite
Le Sourcil De Chanel Perfect Brows Compact to perfect and shape Richie's brows.
Eveyone needs to purchase this brow compact, Paul explains to us.
Chanel discontinued the compact and then brought it back by popular demand.
Paul says it really is the perfect brow necessity because it includes light, medium and dark shades that can mixed and blended together to match your coloring exactly.

CHEEKS:
Paul added
Stila Convertible Color in Gerbera to the apples of Nicole's cheeks. "The non-greasy, creamy, sheer tint adds an inherent glow to the cheeks."
He then added a touch of
NARS The Multiple in a golden shade to create a dash of highlight on the nose and the tops of the cheek bone.
"It's unique, creamy formula blends effortlessly to provide sheer color for creating shimmering accents, contours or dynamic highlights on all skin tones."

LIPS:
Paul lightly lined Nicole's lips with
Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in Nude Beige 1C (a light neutral beige) and then added Chanel's NEW Aqualumiere Gloss in Glass Quartz on top to finish off the look.

How to get smoky eyes

This style has been popular for some time now and doesn't look like it's going anywhere. It is very easy to do and perfect for going out. The key part to this look is that the colours look flawlessly blended. Heres a step by step guide to get the smoky eye look.

Step 1. Make sure the lid is free from any oils. You can do this by using blotting sheets or a primer.

Step 2. Apply base colour. I would recommend a light colour such as cream, beige or soft gold. This is so the darker colour on the outer corner will blend inwards. Apply base colour all over lid.

Nicole Richie is a fan of the smoky eye.

Step 3. Using a khol eyeliner pencil in your chosen dark colour, apply to the upper lash line on the outer corner of the eye. You can apply a thin line all the way along the top lid if you wish, just make sure it is thicker on the outer edge so it can smudge up.

Diane Kruger wears smoky eyes on the red carpet.

Step 4. Apply khol eyeliner along bottom lash line then smudge using a small brush or Q-tip.

Step 5. Using a brush blend the darker eye shadow into the lighter base colour. Start from the outer corner blending inwards towards the nose, but don't cover the whole lid or go over the crease. Follow the lash line with upward strokes. The dark eye shadow should cover the eyeliner and look as though its gradually fading inwards.

Beyonce shows that smoky eye works well on dark skin tones.

Step 6. Apply mascara to top & bottom lashes to finish the look and make your eyes stand out.

Top Buys: Foundations

MAC Face and Body foundation This gets a rating of 3.5/5. It is perfect for dry skin types as it is quite oily. You could wear this throughout the day as it has a light coverage but still evens out skin tones.
Estee Lauder Double wear foundation I would rate this 4.5/5. It gives maximum coverage and theres no need for concealer. This is great for skin types.
